If your Mexican culinary repertoire only extends to fajitas and guacamole, get hold of Rick Stein’s new book, The Road to Mexico: 120 Vibrant Recipes from California and Mexico. It’s been released before his accompanyi­ng seven part BBC2 series (out later this autumn), and features recipes including egg and black bean breakfast dish huevos motulenos, crab and avocado omelette, battered mackerel with mayo chilli sauce and lime, as well as sweet dishes such as clementine, almond and olive oil cake.
