Horse fatally kicks groom at top racecourse

A groom killed at one of the country’sbest-knownracec­ourses from a suspected kick from a horse has been described as “hugely enthusiast­ic and dedicated to his horses” by his employer.

Ken Dooley, in his 50s, suffered fatal injuries following an incident on Saturday night at Kempton Park in Sunbury-onthames.

Trainer Amanda Perrett, who employed Mr Dooley at her yard in West Sussex, confirmed he was the victim. She said in a statement: “Ken had been with us for seven years and was a very special member of our close-knit family business at Coombeland­s.

“He was an excellent employee, very experience­d with racehorses having worked all of his life with them as a jockey, trainer and jockey coach around the world. Our thoughts are with his family at this very sad time.”
