Grandmother ‘screamed’ when she realised toddler was dying, court told

- By WILMA RILEY

The grandmother of toddler Inaya Ahmed told a murder trial yesterday that she screamed when she realised her grand daughter was dying.

Noor Ahmed, 60, said that murder accused Sadia Ahmed, her daughter-in-law, came downstairs and the child’s head was on her shoul- der. Mrs Ahmed told the jury: “I asked ‘has Inaya gone to sleep’, and Sadia replied, ‘I have put her to sleep forever’.”

Prosecutor Paul Kearney asked Mrs Ahmed: “What was Sadia’s emotion when she was telling you this?”

She responded: “She was normal, she was completely normal. Obviously when she said these words to me I started screaming. I didn’t know what else to do.”

Mrs Ahmed was giving evidence at the trial of Ahmed who denies murdering 14-month-old Inaya at 47 Bernisdale Drive, Glasgow, on 17 April, 2016.

She said that she told her husband what had happened and then her son, Wacas Ahmed, came downstairs. She told him to phone the phone and an ambulance. The trial before judge Lord Matthews continues.
