Tory leader to appear on Great British Bake-off charity special
Ruth Davidson’s public profile is to receive another boost when she appears on a celebrity episode of the Great British Bake Off.
The Scottish Conservative leader will take part in a charity special of the Channel 4 programme later this year to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer, the party has confirmed.
Ms Davidson was previously a guest on the baking show’s spin-off, An Extra Slice, when it aired on the BBC.
Appearing alongside former Bake Off champion Nadiya Hussein, comedian Tom Allen 0 Davidson is raising funds for Stand Up To Cancer and presenter Jo Brand last October, she critiqued the 2016 contestants’ semifinal performances.
Former Labour shadow chancellor Ed Balls and former prime ministers’ wives Samantha Cameron and Sarah Brown have appeared on past Bake Off charity specials.
Ms Davidson has been forced to fend off suggestions that she could replace Theresa May. But getting further exposure in front of a UK audience is likely to lead to further speculation that she has ambitions beyond Scotland.
Last night a pun-loving Labour source said: “After the Tories’ base crumbled at the June general election, Ruth Davidson faces a rocky road ahead. Ruth Davidson will need to produce a choux-stopper to clean up this Eton mess.”
