Trump fires warning at Republican rival Mccain
US president Donald Trump issued a fiery warning after Republican Senator John Mccain questioned “half-baked, spurious nationalism” in America’s foreign policy.
Mr Mccain, a former Navy pilot who spent five years in a Vietnam prisoner of war camp and is battling brain cancer, delivered the thinly veiled attack in a speech made in Philadelphia on Monday night.
The six-term senator from Arizona warned against the US surrendering its international leadership. The perceived slight at Mr Trump’s socalled America First policy was voiced by Mr Mccain while receiving an award for a lifetime of service and sacrifice to his country.
Mr Trump responded yesterday by telling a Washington radio station that “people have to be careful because at some point I fight back”. “I’m being very, very nice, but at some point I fight back and it won’t be pretty,” he said.
Mr Mccain offered a simple response: “I have faced tougher adversaries.”
