Inquiry to investigate Scottish immigration
A Westminster committee has launched an inquiry into the effectiveness of UK immigration policy in Scotland.
The Scottish affairs committee will examine how well the existing system meets the country’ s needs and look at how easy it will be for non- UK citizens to move to Scotland after Brexit.
Immigration is currently controlled by the UK government, but Scottish ministers want the power to be devolved. They argue it is needed to help meet Scotland’ s demographic challenges.
The committee said a key part of its inquiry will focus on the impact of the UK leaving the EU and the likely implications for the free movement of EU nationals. It will examine the importance of low- skilled or seasonal immigration to the Scottish economy.
