# SMACKINGBAN

Smacking children is to be banned in Scotland after the SNP government decided to back a private member’s bill by a Green MSP. Children will now be given the same protection as adults as Scotland becomes the first part of the UK to outlaw physical chastisement. @ Toryboypierce tweeted: “Smacking to be banned in Scotland after SNP govt says it will criminalise physical punishment of children. Ridiculous & unenforceable.” @ Children1st wrote: “Re: media coverage of ‘ smacking ban’ – Bill will not create a ban but remove a defence that gives children less protection from violence.” @ Va1marie agreed: “Well overdue. A law to protect children who can’t protect themselves. Violence is never the answer.” @ Yes2forscotland countered: “I do not believe in a nanny state where governments take away all rights of parents, child minders to smack, naughty step does not work.”

# CELTIC

The Scottish champions returned home yesterday after a humbling 3- 0 defeat against Bayern Munich. The result follows a similarly emphatic 5- 0 defeat Brendan Rodgers’ men suffered against PSG. @ Euangibson posted: “Surely folk canny be slagging Celtic for losing 3- 0 to Bayern away? Better teams than Celtic have been shafted there.” @ Robertmc13 claimed: “Celtic have played Barca, PSG and Bayern Munich. In the 4 games they have scored 0 and conceded 17. Rodgers is not a genius. Fact.”

# CATALONIA

The crisis in the Spanish region shows no signs of abating following the disputed independence refendum of 1 October. The central government in Madrid announced it will trigger Article 155 of the constitution, restoring direct rule. @ ANC__ USA wrote: “Ain’t gonna work... Didn’t stop the referendum, won’t take over # Catalonia either... Unless they use military, which means EU kicks them out.” @ M_ a_ Dejongh added: “The question: does Spain want to live together with Catalonia, where around 50% of the population doesn’t want to be Spanish?” @ Tjparfitt commented: “Belgium, Slovenia ... & now Luxembourg demanding “political discussion” and that Catalonia is on the # EU agenda. Wake up, # EU”
