Raith must play at right level to win, says Smith

- By CRAIG P STEWART

Raith Rovers have built up a five-point lead, however manager Barry Smith is taking nothing for granted when his side arrive at Stranraer today.

Smith explained: “We are playing at a difficult venue against a team that have good and experienced players. Stranraer changed their formation around to get a victory over Alloa last weekend and will be looking to build on that.

“All I will ask the players to do is to play at the right level. If we are at the right level of performance then we will win. If we do not go about things correctly then we will not.”

Stranraer boss Stephen Farrell said: “Raith are the strongest side in the league, but we are not going to lie down to them. We will be looking to make it difficult.”

Second-placed Ayr United are the visitors for Jim Weir’s first home game in charge of Forfar Athletic.

Ayr boss Ian Mccall said: “Teams usually lift their game when a new manager comes in and we will be up against that.”

Third-placed Albion Rovers will look to bounce back from their agonising late 5-4 defeat by Alloa Athletic by defeating secondbottom Queen’s Park.

Albion manager Brian Kerr said: “It was horrible to lose two goals in injury time. We will look to attack with the same verve but defend a lot better.”

East Fife will look to keep their place in the top four by winning at Alloa Athletic, but East Fife manager Darren Young warned: “Alloa will view this game as a chance to kickstart their season and will look to put us under pressure.”

Arbroath are seeking only their second home win when Airdrieonians visit Gayfield.
