Passengers arriving in US face new screening

- By JON GAMBRELL

All flights arriving in the US are to be subject to new security screening procedures, with American citizens as well as foreigners possibly facing interviews by airline employees.

The announcement from the US Transpor ta - tion Security Administration comes after five glo - ball on g-haul airlines– Air France, Cathay Pacific, Egypt Air, Emirates and Lufthansa – said they would begin the new security interviews today.

A sixth carrier, Royal Jordanian, said it would begin the new procedures in midJanuary after US authorities granted a delay in implementing the measures.

The airlines offered different descriptions of how the inter views would take place, ranging from another form a traveller will have to fill out to actually being questioned by an airline employee.
