Jamie Harron, who faced three months in a Dubai jail, has returned to the UK after his charges for public indecency were dropped. On his arrival, Harron said: “I still couldn’t believe it had actually happened.” @ haigdavid said: “Welcome home Jamie Harron, safe and sound in Scotland.” @ marcelaluqu added: “For touching a man’s hip, three months in jail? Sounds like a lot of homophobia in Dubai.” @ Drbeknows said: “This was an accident, homophobic and absurd. However, ‘ Western’ travellers do need to be very attentive to laws and social customs during travel.”

Scientists have created genetically modified low- fat pigs using a gene- editing technique known as CRISPR. Chinese scientists say the pigs have 24 per cent less fat than their non- genetically modified counterparts. @ reubenwoodruff said: “Gene modification is awesome and incredibly interesting. At the same time, we have some massive ethical issues looming on the horizon.” @ butterflywriter jokingly added: “There is something fundamentally wrong with low- fat pigs.” @ danablankenhorn added: “Sorry China. If I wanted the low- fat pig I’d have ordered the chicken.” @ nyoopnyoop said: “So they created a fitness regime for the pigs and restricted their caloric intake to minimise fat and maximise lean muscle? That seems like less work than genetically modifying them…”

The three finalists were announced for this year ’s Great British Bake Off – the first year the programme has been screened on Channel 4. Kate, Steven and Sophie will battle it out for the crown after Stacey was sent home after the semi- final. @ birdy87 said: “You don’t want to make the wrong decision.’ What like Liam, Yan and Julia?” @ samlheywood added: “How the hell did Kate make it this far? Every week before now she says ‘ disaster ’ when doing her bakes. It’s true. Good ones left before her – poor Liam left when he had a better week. He should have been in the final.” @ readyreply said: “Good luck to all the finalists next week. Steven needs to stop crying and start smiling. He just made it to the final.” @ Deborah2409 added: “Well done Kate! She did well this week.”
