Creation maths

The historical evidence adduced by David W hit lie (Gospel Truth ,25 October) is of interest, but like matters relating to belief systems refuses to address the elephant in the room: all of this is meaningless in the absence of a supreme being.

Consider further “historical evidence”, this time on a grander scale. Our universe ( there may be others!) exhib - its evidence that it sprang into being some 13.7 billion years ago. On the other hand our solar system has been around for only about 4.6 billion years, whereafter humankind as we know it appeared only recently after a succession of random extinction catastrophes over the piece. Genesis 1.27 tells us “So God created man in his own image”, which I have to suggest might prompt a curious person to ask what He/ She/ It was up to during these billions of years instead of getting straight to the point.
