‘ Wellness centre’ social enterprise gains funding

An Edinburgh-based social enterprise aiming to tackle poor mental health in the city has secured funding to help bring a community gym and wellness centre to reality.

Projekt 42 said it had attracted £ 44,000 in funding, building on the success of its pilot programme in Leith, which saw some 400 members benefit from “enhanced wellbeing”. It aims to open a larger, tailormade, centre during 2018.

Founder Sara Hawkins said: “When I star ted Projekt 42, I did so with the aim of creat- in ga revolution­ary centre where the local comm unity could come together and work on strengthen­ing their mental health through physical activities.

“It is thanks to funding from organisati­ons such as First Port, Robertson Trust, St James’ s Place, Found ation Scotland and Pleasance Trust, as well as the support from businesses such asBuccleuc­h Property, that we are able to do this.”

The charity recently lodged a council planning applicatio­n.
