#DUNDEE2023

Officials in Dundee came together yesterday to launch the city’s bid to become European City of Culture in 2023. @Drelainemulcahy got behind the bid. She said: “Good luck #Dundee2023. You would be a most worthy winner!” @thesonghunter said: “Very excited to be at the launch of #Dundee2023 watching the bid head down to London.” @rbmccready added: “I was delighted to join colleagues and many fellow citizens at the send-off event for our European City of Culture bid, good luck #Dundee2023.” @jimmthejanny wasn’t too impressed. He said: “Money would be better spent on a better quality of life for the less privileged than massaging the egos of the yuppies trying to look trendy.”

#RANGERS

Rangers sacked manager Pedro Caixinha after a string of poor results, with Graeme Murty set to take charge of the first team while a permanent replacement is found. @Willievass said: “Six months difference. Sad it didn’t end well for Pedro or Rangers but wish him all the best wherever his travels take him.” @Charlie26adam, former Rangers player, added: “I think Rangers should go for Alex Mcleish, @alexrae1969 and @Kthomssonacademy till end of the season.” @keatonbishop was more supportive of the former manager. He said: “First season with a permanent manager back in the league. Can’t expect them to win it, only five points off second too.”

#ISS

Pope Francis made a live video call to the International Space Station (ISS). The ISS is currently crewed by six astronauts and this is the second papal call to the space research centre after Pope Benedict XVI phoned in 2011. @Sanhotree jokingly said: “Wow. It’s like a Renaissance painting meets the Jetsons!” @Jeyylowe added: “This is totally amazing. They’re talking about what it means for love to move the universe.” @Popeccola said: “This will be very fascinating. It’s nice to know that he is not a science denier. It’s very encouraging.” @rkam105 questioned the phone call, adding: “What, will pope make Roman Catholicism a modern progressive religion?”
