Duffy wary of Buddies’ confidence as Morton set out to upset leaders

- CRAIG P STEWART

By Morton head to leaders St Mirren with Cappielow manager Jim Duffy recognising the extra ingredient that has helped the Paisley side.

Duffy, pictured, explained: “It is difficult to predict in such a competitive league what will happen in a few games, let alone 36, so I’ve not given much thought about whether St Mirren will remain at the top. What I would say is that they have confidence and that helps.”

Saints assistant manager James Fowler said: “You can not take anything for granted, especially in a derby. Earlier this season we were winning at Morton before having a man sent off, giving away two penalties and ultimately losing 4-1. Anything can happen.” Dumbarton manager Stephen Aitken reckons that, despite the sacking of Ray Mckinnon, his Sons are up against it when they host a Dundee United side with Laurie Ellis in temporary charge. Aitken said: “They have a great squad who will be out to prove a point.”

Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager John Robert- son is determined to make up for a 5-1 defeat by Dunfermline when the sides meet again in the Highlands.

Robertson said: “They were clinical against us earlier in the season but this game gives us a chance to test our progress.”

Queen of the South will be facing a very different Falkirk side at Palmerston to the one they defeated 4-1 back in August, according to manager Gary Naysmith. He said: “They are in a false position and are a different proposition now as Paul Hartley is out to put his own stamp on things.”

Bottom side Brechin City visit Livingston, with Glebe Park manager Darren Dods adamant that his men are in good heart despite being winless. He said: “The spirit remains really high and we will be ready to go against a side who are the most dangerous from set pieces in our league.”
