Geordies left stranded in metro closure
The Tyne and Wear Metro system that serves Newcastle and Sunderland was completely suspended yesterday due to a major power supply problem.
Nexus, which runs the light rail service, said: “Metro services are suspended system-wide due to a major power supply problem at the depot.
“The issue occurred this morning at 5:30am when a major fault occurred in an electrical sub-station, which means we were unable to move trains out of the fleet depot.”
Among those warned to look for alternative transport have been 10,000-plus rugby union fans. The Metro has 60 stations on its 48-mile long system.
