Glasgow law firms announce merger deal
One of Scotland’s oldest law firms, Mitchells Roberton, has merged with another Glasgow firm in the latest consolidaton move seen in the legal sector.
Mitchells Roberton, which can trace its roots back to the 1700s, is joining forces with Kerr Barrie which will see its name disappear.
The merger will increase Mitchells Roberton’s 63-strong team by five.
Kerr Barrie’s two partners, Martin Mclellan and Margot Manson, will join the enlarged firm as partner and consultant respectively.
Donald Reid, partner and chairman of Mitchells Roberton, said: “We are all very much looking forward to welcoming Martin and Margot and to working with them and their experienced colleagues.
“There are strong similarities between our firms, notably shared professional values and client focus, and we expect to strengthen further our offering to clients as a result of this merger.”
Mclellan, of Kerr Barrie, said: “We are very pleased to be bringing our clients into the Mitchells Roberton stable. They have the same outlook as we do and they think the same way.”
Kerr Barrie specialises in areas including residential and commercial property, wills and estates, civil court work and employment law. Mitchells Roberton is active in private client work and also has commercial and litigation departments.
In July, Scottish law firm Maclay Murray & Spens announced a merger with England-based Dentons which is the world’s largest law firm by headcount. 0 ‘Shared focus’ – Donald Reid of Mitchells Roberton
