Heart of Midlothian Dreadful recruitment

- Roddy Elliott

In a world of extraordinary events, it is important to maintain a sense of proportion. Bill Shankly was wrong; football is less important than life and death. John Arlott was closer. We take sport too seriously and life too lightly.

Hearts have had a terrible week, but it’s only football. Another derby loss offered the mini consolation that talent not application had let us down. Saturday started okay but finished with the same feeling; our squad is ordinary, Berra and Lafferty excepted. There was always a risk Rangers would get a post-pedro Caixinha lift. We are left feeling our recent recruitment has been dreadful. It’s 1 November and top six looks like the height of our ambition. A return to Tynecastle can’t come soon enough.
