Yesterday marked the 50th anniversar­y of Winnie Ewing’s historic Hamilton by- election victory, in which she became only the second SNP candidate to be returned to Westminste­r. @ Stewartmcd­onald said: “Three parliament­s: A stunning career representi­ng Scotland. Winnie Ewing embodies the best of public service. Thank you, Madam Ecosse.” @ eliz_ lloyd commented: “Winnie Ewing’s win is a core part of journey to a Scottish Parliament. Right to recognise that in the parliament she then re- convened” @ Feorlean offered: “Sad that Tory and Labour MSPS refuse to join in applause for Winnie Ewing after question about Hamilton by- election from Claire Haughey” @ Journostep­hen added: “I’m a great admirer of Winnie Ewing but I don’t see how asking the FM to celebrate the anniversar­y of her election is a proper use of First Minister ’s Questions”

Prosecutor­s asked the judge to detain eight of the nine former government members who turned up for questionin­g in Madrid. They are accused of rebellion, sedition and misuse of public funds. The state prosecutor has requested a European arrest warrant for ousted Catalan leader Carles Puigdemont. @ ianbirrell said: “Blimey! Eight sacked Catalan ministers have been jailed by a Spanish judge for pushing independen­ce” @ Tomburridg­ebbc added: “Days ago Oriol Junqueras was number two in Catalonia’s regional government. Now he and six other former government ministers are going to jail: another big moment here”
