Mourning in Malta for top journalist
Malta observed a national day of mourning yesterday as the Mediterranean island’s largest church hosted funeral services for Daphne Caruana Galizia, an investigative journalist killed by a car bomb.
Archbishop of Malta Charles Scicluna marked the funeral mass in Mosta, near Caruana Galizia’s village.
Top Maltese government figures had agreed to respect the wishes of the slain journalist’s family and stay away. The flag at European Commission headquarters in Brussels flew at half mast. The commission condemned the brutal attack carried out on 16 October.
