Army dreamers
It was suggested in the Commons Armed Forces debate that Scots were being put off enlisting in the Army by “talk of independence” (your report, 2 November). It would seem a fair point. The SNP’S never-ending grievances and calls for another referendum must surely be at least partly to blame. What was surprising, however, was the SNP defence spokesperson’s reply. He claimed the threat of independence was not putting potential recruits off. He went on to say the SNP was “not interested in a constitutional bun fight”.
He could have fooled me, and, I am certain, millions of other Scots. Many believe that is all the SNP are interested in. These matters are the only subjects that animate them. They have spent more time and energy and our taxes on a second referendum and Catalonia than they have on the NHS or Education in the country whose devolved government
they are supposed to be running at present.
