Tips on how to quit your job in style

-

It is the dream of every overworked and underpaid employee to storm out in a blaze of glory, but some go further than others.

Liam Byrne, former chief secretary to the Treasury in Gordon Brown’s government, famously left a note to his successor reading: “Dear chief secretary, I’m afraid there is no money. Kind regards – and good luck, Liam” after Labour’s defeat in the 2010 general election.

Jetblue flight attendant Steven Slater’s departure from the airline also made headlines in 2010. After a passenger on a flight to New York stood up early to retrieve her baggage, Mr Slater snapped, cursing at the entire aircraft before grabbing a beer, opening the emergency chute and sliding down onto the tarmac at JFK airport.

Closer to home, Twitter user @_Kaitlynmcgrory posted a picture of her gran’s blunt notice on the site earlier this year, which quickly went viral.

Handing in her notice, the grandmother, known only as Marlene, wrote: “Dear Mr Macgillvray, the joab’s crap and am leavin. Canny wait.

“I’ll no be back after June 30th. Good luck in getting some other mug to clean the place. Cheerio, Marlene.” She signed off with “Yee Ha”.
