Trucker wrecks entrance to ancient cemetery

-

The 300-year-old entrance to one of Scotland’s oldest cemeteries has been reduced to rubble after it was struck by a truck.

The arched entrance to St Ninian’s Old Kirkyard in Stirling was built around 1700AD. Parts of the wall and the cemetery are believed to date back 1,000 years.

The gateway and a section of the A-listed perimeter wall was destroyed as the driver tried to turn his vehicle after his sat nav sent him the wrong way, according to locals.

The garden wall of an adjacent property was also destroyed.
