Fears for future
As a long-time reader and occasional letter-writer, I have serious concerns about the recently reported interest in The Scotsman by Alex Salmond and Norwegian activist Christen Ager-hansen (Scottish Perspective, 3 November).
The views of these gentle-
men appear to concern The Scotsman as being “largely irrelevant” and a bid “to restore pride and confidence through a pro-scottish agenda”. This in my mind equates to a pro-independent Scotland agenda or, worse still, Alex Salmond’s view of same.
I don’t want to be reading a newspaper that only concentrates on Scotland, I want to know and understand what is happening elsewhere in the United Kingdom, Europe and the world.
In addition, although I don’t agree with some of the contributors to the Opinion section of the newspaper, it’s only right and fair that I have the opportunity to at least understand where they are coming from. The Scotsman currently provides this service for me.
I am at a loss to understand why Mr Salmond thinks he is qualified and experienced for this role and fear that as well as an opportunity to promote Indyref2, it would also be a vehicle for promoting Alex Salmond Mark 2.
There is no doubt in my mind that Mr Salmond would not be able to resist interfering in editorial content, and if this happens, I for one will very reluctantly leave The Scotsman readership.
