Ship of dream designs
As the dramatic prow of the great ship of a building that will house Dundee’s V&A museum has taken shape on the banks of the Tay, excitement has been growing about what it will be like inside.
Now we’ve been given a glimpse of the exhibits and they do not disappoint, from a beautifully illustrated prayer book – created in 1480, 12 years before Christopher Columbus made his famous journey to the Americas – and a treasonous and slightly racy Jacobite garter to the modern art of Eduardo Paolozzi, the work of fashion designer Holly Fulton and even a new videogame.
The V&A in London is one of the UK’S top ten most popular tourist attractions based on visitor numbers, welcoming more than three million people last year. And now the world is taking notice of developments in Dundee.
The Wall Street Journal last month decided it was “Scotland’s coolest city” and would be one of the best places – along with Madagascar, Shanghai and the Faroe Islands – to visit next year. Without a doubt, all Scotland will reap the benefits of having such a wonderful showcase of its talents.
