First fe­male bishop for Epis­co­palians

A church has ap­pointed its first woman to the po­si­tion of bishop.

Rev Canon Anne Dyer said she was “de­lighted” to be elected Bishop of Aberdeen and Orkney.

She be­comes the first woman to take such a post in the Scot­tish Epis­co­pal Church.

The Gen­eral Synod of the Scot­tish Epis­co­pal Church voted to al­low the elec­tion of women bish­ops in 2003.

Canon Dyer has been Rec­tor of Holy Trin­ity church, Hadding­ton, East Loth­ian, since 2011.
