First female bishop for Episcopalians

-

A church has appointed its first woman to the position of bishop.

Rev Canon Anne Dyer said she was “delighted” to be elected Bishop of Aberdeen and Orkney.

She becomes the first woman to take such a post in the Scottish Episcopal Church.

The General Synod of the Scottish Episcopal Church voted to allow the election of women bishops in 2003.

Canon Dyer has been Rector of Holy Trinity church, Haddington, East Lothian, since 2011.
