Per­haps the rea­son no woman po­lit­i­cal leader has backed the ban­ning of pornog­ra­phy (Let­ters, 9 Novem­ber) is the swift re­al­i­sa­tion that be­yond be­ing a piece of cheap mob ap­peal­ing rhetoric it sim­ply would not cure that which it is hoped to.

Quite aside from one per­son’s artis­tic nude be­ing an­other’s pornog­ra­phy the sim­ple truth is de­cline in us­age of any­thing con­sid­ered un­de­sir­able is linked to changes in the zeit­geist as a whole, never from any moral cru­sade.
