Rangers and Celtic linked with Aussie teen Mcgree

- By STEVE GOODMAN

Celtic and Rangers have been credited with an interest in the widely admired Australian teenager Riley Mcgree.

The midfielder was on Celotic’s radar earlier this year but joined Club Brugge during the summer from Adelaide United.

Mcgree, 19, has yet to break into the Belgian league leaders’ first team this season.

However Celtic scouts are still monitoring the Australian Under-23 international’s progress, while Rangers have also been linked with the player.

Reports in Belgium claim Brugge will let Mcgree leave in January or next summer if the price is right – despite him being tied to a contract until 2021.

Dubbed the brightest prospect in Australian football, the teenager made 21 appearances and scored two goals for A-league outfit Adelaide last season.

He was called into the Socceroos squad in March, but still awaits his first senior cap. l Former Dundee and Rangers striker Nacho Novo is one of the names under consideration to become the new manager of League 2 side Clyde.

Novo, 38, applied to become the manager of Airdrie in August but was unsuccessful and has now thrown his hat into the ring to replace Jim Chapman at Clydefollowingchapman’s sacking last week.
