Evra shown door after clash

- By MASSIMO MARZOCCHI

Patrice Evra’s Marseille contract has been terminated following his seven-month ban from Uefa competitions.

The former Manchester United full-back, now 36, was dismissed prior to the start of the Europa League clash with Vitoria earlier this month after clashing with a Marseille fan. Yesterday, Uefa suspended Evra from European club matches until 30 June and fined him €10,000. Marseille then stated that they and the player had parted company.

Evra lost his cool after apparently being verbally abused by some of the club’s fans. A club statement said: “Patrice Evra has been exemplary on [and off] the field. However, he committed an irreparable act by responding to provocations from a handful of individuals.”
