Dyson says UK should quit Brexit talks and scrap business taxes

- By PARIS GOURTSOYANNIS

Businessman Sir James Dyson has called on the UK to walk away from Brexit negotiations and become a low-tax, low-regulation economy like Singapore.

The entrepreneur, who campaigned for Leave in the referendum, said it was “outrageous” that Brussels was demanding “billions and billions” as part of the Brexit settlement.

He called for an end to corporation tax, and said workplace protections should be cut back so that firms can hire and fire staff more easily. 0 James Dyson: Brussels demands ‘outrageous’

Mr Dyson, who moved large parts of his vacuum cleaner business out of the UK to Asia, said his firm had already fallen off the “cliff edge” of paying tariffs to trade with the EU, proving the British economy would survive a nodeal Brexit.

He told the BBC’S Andrew Marr Show: “Demanding billions and billions to leave is quite outrageous and demanding it before we negotiate anything is outrageous. I would walk away. That’s the only way to deal with them.”

Mr Dyson claimed 90 per cent of future growth would come from outside the EU.

“If you walk away they’ll come to us because they want to export all their products to us,” he said.

“They will come back to us. We are in a very, very strong position.”
