March 2009 -Scottish Government announces minimum price for alcohol plans. November 2010 - MSPS reject SNP’S bid. May 2012 - Scotland becomes the first part of the UK to back minimum pricing for alcohol. July 2012 - The Scotch Whisky Associatio­n (SWA) launches legal action against the law. May 2013 - First legal challenge fails in court. February 2014 - SWA appeals. April 2014 - Legal challenge referred to European Court of Justice (ECJ) . December 2015 - ECJ rules that minimum price plans would breach EU law October 2016 - Scotland’s highest civil court backs plans July 2017 - SWA appeals to Supreme Court. November 2017 - The Supreme Court rejects the SWA’S challenge.
