Husband of woman held in Iran asks to join trip
The husband of a British woman jailed in Iran pressed Foreign Secretary Boris Johnson to take him along on a planned trip to Tehran amid mounting pressure to secure her freedom.
Richard Ratcliffe met Johnson yesterday to discuss a still to be arranged trip to try and to win the release of Nazanin Zaghari-ratcliffe, a 38-year-old charity worker accused of plotting the “soft toppling” of Iran’s government. Ratcliffe told Johnson he wanted to travel with him because he has been denied a visa to Iran ever since his wife was arrested in April 2016.
“He said that he was keen to take me, but it is a question to resolve both within advice of the Foreign Office and also in liaison with the Iranians,” Ratcliffe said,“that’s something we’ll keep pushing for.”
