Miles to go

-

Kathryn Sharp (Letters, 15 November) may have misinterpreted my letter regarding the blueprint for enhancing the Royal Mile, and surrounding Old Town area. I fully agree with her regarding the fact that parts of the city centre resemble a theme park at certain times, and this should be curbed.

My point was that the proposed Royal Mile trains do not replicate this trend.

The excellent proposals in the blueprint, which I had not outlined in my letter, were: 1) To address the problems of antisocial behaviour, begging and rough sleeping. These matters should be considered sensitively to protect the vulnerable. 2) To provide enhanced lighting in some of the badly lit closes and courtyards in the Old Town, to provide better safety and security. 3) To address traffic problems in the Cowgate and Victoria Street. 4) To provide cleaner streets. The implementation of these considerations would be of great benefit to locals as well as tourists
