Avis boosts presence in Scotland with van deal

- By SCOTT REID

Avis Budget has revved up its presence in Scotland with the acquisition of a vehicle rental company based in West Lothian.

The group said customers would be able to enjoy a “significant” increase in van accessibility following the takeover of family-owned ACL Hire, which has operations elsewhere in Scotland and the UK.

ACL staff will transfer over to the industry major including the company’s founders, James and William Harris. The deal value has not been disclosed.

James Harris said: “We’re excited about this new chapter and are committed to continuing to provide the same, high quality service our loyal customer base has enjoyed over the last seven years.”

Nina Bell, head of Avis Budget UK, added: “We feel very strongly that by combining the strengths of the two companies, we will be able to offer customers of both a more comprehensive commercial vehicle rental offering.”
