EU agencies in the UK get new home
The European Banking Authority is to be re located from London to Paris after Brexit, it has been announced.
EU chiefs also decided to move the European Medicines Agency from London to Amsterdam.
The two agencies are currently based in Canary Wharf where they employ around 1,000 staff.
Both cities were chosen by drawing lots after a final round of voting was tied. The French capital beat Dublin which was seen to boost Paris’ bid to get banks to shift operations from London after Brexit. A UK government spokesman said: “As part of our new deep and special par tnership, we want to ensure close collaboration on major science, research and technology initiatives continues.”
Lib Dem leader Vince Cable said: “These moves mark the beginning of the jobs Brexodus.”
