Short memories

In response to JoyceMc millan’s excellent article on Cabaret( Perspective ,17 November ), I feel I must cry shame at Hungarian prime mini st erVik tor Orban’s refusal to permit 1,200 Syrian refugees to resettle in his country.

In 1956, as an eight- year- old school boy, I saw Edinburgh gift financial aid to Hungarians displaced due to Russian aggression. It was similar to the poor giving to the poor, but in the interests of humanity we contributed to assist the Hungarians fleeing Russian aggressors.

Leaving the EU through B rex it maybe for the best if right wing, uncaring govern ents prevail in the community. DOUGLAS JAMES HALLEY
