Sitting pretty: Sofa group DFS gets the nod for takeover of smaller rival Sofology
The competition watchdog has waved through sofa retailer DFS’S £ 25 million takeover of smaller rival Sofology. The clearance of the deal by the Competition and Markets Authority( CM A) is expected to handDFS£4m in cost savings, and is set to be complete by 30 November.DFS chief executive Ian Filby said he was “delighted”. Clearing the regu- latory hurdle is also some consolation, after DFS announced last month a 22 per cent slump in pre- tax profits to £ 50.1 million in the year to 29 July amid falling consumer confidence.
