Search for fisherman to resume at first light

A major search was due to resume after first light today to find a fisherman feared missing of the west coast of Scotland.

The alarm was raised just after 2:30 pm yesterday when a fishing vessel, with its engine still running, was found at rocks just south of Applecross.

HMCoastgua rd were alerted and a full scale emergency response was mobilised.

When emergency services arrived at scene, it was discovered the fishing vessel had no one on board.

Applecross Coastguard Rescue Team were then joined by colleagues from both Kyle and Portree Lifeboats.

The Stornoway-based HM Coastguard helicop - ter was also scrambled for the search and rescue call.

A total of ten fishing vessels also joined the operation after a Mayday relay broadcast was made by the coastguard asking for help.

However after dark fell it was announced at about 7:55 pm that, with no one found, the search was being suspended overnight but was due to resume again early this morning.
