Teenager arrested over murder bid

A teenager has been arrested for the attempted murder of a 66-year-old man in North Ayrshire.

The 16-year-old is being held in police custody following an altercation with the man after leaving a pub in Green Street, Saltcoats. The incident happened at around 7:30pm on Tuesday.

The victim was taken to Crosshouse Hospital in Kilmarnock where medical staff described his condition as critical.

Police said a report would be sent to the procurator fiscal.
