Minus the truth

-

I want to make clear to your readers any misconceptions they may have after reading your article “School calls in students to fill maths teacher gaps” (22 November).

The University of Edinburgh students will not replace teachers nor fill vacancies. Experienced teachers take the classes with the students assisting pupils with their learning – no student will be taking a maths class on their own.

The school, Trinity Academy, has put in place various measures to deal with the current vacancies which include specialist external supply teachers, non-specialist internal class cover and the University students assisting pupils in S2 and S5. All these measures have the full support of the Parent Council.

Our priority remains ensuring that the curriculum continues to be delivered to the highest possible standard and we believe these arrangements will minimise disruption to the pupils’ learning.
