Park the charges
The announcement that Sunday parking charges are to be introduced in Edinburgh is a desperate money-grabbing ploy, and it will ensure that the city centre loses trade.
Nowadays many town centres throughout the country are run down because people don’t use them – or can’t readily use them. There are exceptions – Whitney, in Oxfordshire, is booming, and one reason is that you can take your car into it (for a generous, but limited time).
Closer to home Kelso has a vibrant town centre, and it has a similar car policy. Simply seeing cars, and hence visitors, as a source of tax is short sighted. Edinburgh will get what it deserves.
