How about an imaginative rethink on public libraries? (Willie Waugh, Letters, 22 November) Could we consider recruiting trained volunteers to work in libraries in the evenings and at weekends?

There must be many folk, with an interest in libraries and the community resources they provide, who might willingly give a few hours regularly to assist librarians in their valuable work. Volunteers do tremendous work in other fields, why not in the libraries?
