Well done, Tories

-

It’s interesting that Paris Gourtsoyannis draws attention to the Border Tories pushing for better cross-border links with an extension to the Waverley Line (Perspective, 21 November). It should not be forgotten that it was the Tories who campaigned in the 1987 General Election to upgrade the A74 to motorway status and that this was duly delivered by Mrs Thatcher’s government. And, although it’s not a cross-border link, obviously, I recall it was the Tories alone who called for a new Forth Bridge in the late 1990s, a proposal which was derided by all the other parties at the time. And currently they are the only party brave enough to back fracking, which would bring about a new industrial revolution here. So they actually do a lot more for Scotland than most people give them credit for.
