High as a kite: Raptors spotted tussling in the air above Dumfries as recovery continues
Two red kites have been pictured playing and tussling in mid-air in Dumfries.
For more than 400 years the birds were considered vermin and were hunted to extinction across Scotland but after being re-introduced they have now bounced back. The red kite is a medium-large bird of prey in the family Accipitridae, which also includes many other diurnal raptors such as eagles and buzzards.
