Mike Garson plays Aladdin Sane

- Fiona Shepherd

David Bowie was one of the shrewdest pop operators when it came to choosing collaborators who could complement his dynamic musical vision, from producers Tony Visconti and Nile Rodgers to his right hand musicians. Pianist Mike Garson, above, one of his longest serving foils, brought his fluent freeform jazz chops to Bowie’s band in the transition from Ziggy Stardust to Aladdin Sane and it is the latter Bowie album which he will perform in full in Glasgow tomorrow, with special guest vocalist Steve Harley and a band who have played with the likes of Iggy Pop, PJ Harvey and Thomas Dolby over the years. ■ ABC, Glasgow, tomorrow, 0141-332 2232
