No grudge match as Mcinnes says ‘there is no problem’ with former captain Jack

Derek Mcinnes insists tonight will be no grudge match when Aberdeen come face to face with their former captain, Ryan Jack, for the first time since his summer move to Rangers.

The Aberdeen manager made it clear last week that he would not be joining the midfielder at Ibrox as Pedro Caixinha’s replacemen­t despite all the speculatio­n to the contrary. Earlier this year Jack, pictured, reacted to similar rumours by reassuring Mcinnes that he had no intention of moving there under freedom of contract, a declaratio­n that later proved groundless.

Mcinnes was so annoyed by the midfielder’s behaviour when the truth came out that he stripped him of the captaincy for last season’s Scottish Cup final against Celtic.

But Mcinnes claims there are no hard feelings on his part now. “There is no problem at all with Ryan and myself,” he said. “I spoke to him when he was up here for the Scotland fixture recently.

“In hindsight, I was just more disappoint­ed that he was going. He was an important player for us. I tried to show him that importance by making him captain, but that is part and parcel of football.you want to work with good players and Ryan is a good player.
