Litter on beaches targeted in a national clean-up rose by 10 per cent this year, with a fifth of the rubbish made up of “onthe-go” food and drink items.

On average, 138 pieces of waste were found for every 100 metres of beach. The items were picked up in the Great British Beach Clean.
