Muwalla a good bet at Musselburgh

- By GORDON BROWN

Lisa Harrison is expecting a decent performance from Muwalla in one of the feature races at Musselburgh this afternoon.

The Cumbrian raider, who is partnered by Borders-born conditional jockey Callum Bewley, faces five rivals in the My Name’s Doddie Foundation Chase.

Harrison said: “The nice ground is what he wants and he’s been cracking seconds on both his recent runs at Newcastle and Musselburgh. Callum gets on great with him and they should go well again.”

Among the opposition to Muwalla are Civil Unrest, a four-time course winner comprising two hurdles and two chases, for Langholm trainer James Ewart and Endeavor, who carries the colours of Edinburgh owner Margaret Coppola.

Lucinda Russell is doublehanded in the IME/DJK Lettings Chase Limited Novices’ Handicap Chase. The Grand National-winning handler saddles Hey Listen and Jump For Dough with Aintree-winning jockey Derek Fox opting to partner the latter, who is having his second start for new connections after arriving from Ireland in the summer.

At Newcastle’s evening meeting, Right Touch could be the solution to a fascinating sprint. Richard Fahey’s seven-year-old has not won since last July but he came close in the autumn and should once again be not too far away.

After having finished second in a deep race at Musselburgh in October, he then did just as well in a similarly competitive event at Doncaster. Right Touch was knocked off his stride late on, too, so must have pleased Fahey by finishing fourth in a seven-furlong handicap, in which he was beaten by Speculative Bid.
