Reid all about it /Diver back in home city
Scots Grace Reid, James Heatly, Gemma Mcarthur and Lucas Thomson are among those competing for honours at the Scottish Diving Championships over the next four days at the Royal Commonwealth Pool, writes Gary Heatly.
With places at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, in April still to be confirmed, some top-quality English divers also having made the trip north it promises to be a top quality event.
Reid will be competing in her home city for the first time since she became a European champion alongside Tom Daley in the summer in the 3-metre mixed synchro event.
Since then she has relocated to London and is excited to be back as she aims for her third Commonwealth Games appearance come next April.
Reid said: “I’m really excited about the Scottish Championships – they’ll be a good benchmark for me. It’s been nice being a full time athlete down in London in recent months. It’s allowed me to concentrate on things like my recovery and my nutrition so I’m feeling good.”
Edinburgh Diving Club duo Heatly and Thomson recently won a silver medal in the 10m synchro event at the FINA Grand Prix in Australia. As a result they are heading into the meet feeling good and, for teenager Thomson, the next few days will give him more exposure to top level competition as he continues his impressive rise up the senior ranks.
In recent years Heatly has a good record at this meet and will want to keep that up. Mcarthur, who trains in Southampton, teamed up with Thomson in Australia at the same meet in Gold Coast and she, too, has made big strides in the last couple of years.
The first dives take place from 6pm tonight.
