Autumn Tests star Price signs for two more years at Scotstoun

- By DUNCAN SMITH

One of Scotland’s star men from the recent autumn series, scrum-half Ali Price, has committed to Glasgow Warriors by signing a two-year contract extension which will keep him at Scotstoun until 2020.

The 24-year-old has grasped the opportunity of Greig Laidlaw’s injuries and Lions involvement to take his Test caps tally to 11 in a year.

On top of some excellent performances for his club in Europe last season and star showings for Scotland, including a try in Saturday’s 53-24 rout of Australia, the speedy Price’s stock has risen.

He made his Scotland debut off the bench in the final November Test last year against Georgia at Rugby Park in Kilmarnock.

Price was voted the player of the season by the Glasgow supporters for his performances in 2016-17. He told Warriors TV: “It was an incredibly easy decision for me to make. I’ve been up here for four years now and I’m loving it and the club’s in a really good place.

“Playing at Scotstoun is a feeling I can’t really explain. I love the buzz. Glasgow fans love their team and, as a player, I love that. I love running out here and they give us the extra motivation we need.

“I’m staying here because I want to win things. I feel like the squad and coaching staff we’ve got here have the ability to do that and it’s really exciting.”

Glasgow Warriors coach Dave Rennie, said: “We’re rapt that Ali has signed up. He’s developed into a top class 9 and the speed that he brings is a big part of how we’re trying to play the game. He’s a good man and he loves the club and it’s great for us to have an international scrum-half committing long-term.”
