Tory MP votes with SNP over pensions

- By PARIS GOURTSOYANNIS

A Scottish Conservative MP has rebelled against the party whip for the first time after Douglas Ross voted with the SNP over compensation for women hit by the rising pension age.

The MP for Moray signed a pledge during the election vowing to support the WASPI campaign, which seeks redress for three million women born in the 1950s who must wait an additional six years for their pensions.

In a heated debate, Mr Ross revealed he had been called a “f***ing snake, a little twerp and a disgrace to humanity” following SNP criticism of his record on the WASPI issue.

The motion passed by 288 to zero because the government has ignored opposition motions since losing its majority.
